I was reading an article of Suzy Menkes about Martin Margiela leaving the fashion house that he built.
Margiela kept his identity from the public eye. He refused to have his pictures taken and remained backstage during fashion shows. All media interviews are done via fax or e-mail.
Giovanni Pungetti, chief executive of Maison Martin Margiela, said that the fashion house would continue to operate with the creative staff that its reclusive founder had developed over 20 years but that there would be no new appointment of a creative director.
Margiela's brand was acquired by the Diesel brand in 2002 and industry insiders quoted in the article suggested that Martin Margiela may desire to leave due to creative differences, or simply, "... a desire to enjoy his life outside the insistent glare of the fashion world." I admire Mr. Margiela for leaving the brand. If his vision is no longer realized and still stayed for business sake the whole point of the brand being discreet, eccentric and groundbreaking will be lost.
The exciting part of the whole picture is if the 28 member creative team could function without a creative director. If the answer is yes, then the departure of Mr. Margiela, whose personal image has so rarely been seen, may leave a lasting imprint on the business. This may change the hierarchy in fashion houses, a collective to handle a brand...sounds exciting! (a very contemporary approach in design).
Mr. Margiela what's next? rumors said you wanted to paint.
may i quote CHUVANESS (http://chuvaness.livejournal.com/?skip=10)
